Well, the news is in from the MPAA and the upcoming “Evil Dead” remake has been given the dreaded NC-17, meaning that no one under the age of 17 can see the film even with parental concept. Of course this being released with big studio backing, “Evil Dead” will be heading back to the cutting room to remove tasty bits of gore.
Director Fede Alvarez stated on his twitter account, “Was proud of scoring a NC17 when submitted! But we had to cut stuff out to get an R and get the film into theaters,” Let’s all hope for a gory release on DVD and Bluray in an its unrated form. As for the movie, does this news make you more or less likely to check it out?

I don’t see this as a bad thing. I mean sure, maybe some good stuff will be cut out, but it isn’t like that stuff won’t be included in an unrated version of the film once it reaches DVD/BLU. If the previous three films are any indication, over the next few decades there will be four or five different versions of the film made available. Or maybe as technology continues to sprawl, we can edit our own personalized version of the film and we can download it once we’re done editing it. Everyone will win!!
In fact I would have been worried if it received a soft R or PG13. It makes me feel better knowing that the writers, producers and director got what they wanted. Now we have to do the MPAA ratings dance before it reaches us, but we’ll have it soon enough. If what’s in the trailer is in the movie, I might just cum!
